But while the new houses have gotten widespread acclaim, locals say they cannot make up for all that was lost in the industrial calamity, which made headlines around the world.

Days after a giant catfish was caught on the Tisza, local media reported of another monster fish lurking in local waters. Angler Gábor Udvari caught a carp likely weighing over 30 kilograms - a scale topping at 27 kilograms could not weigh it - on the Lake Pécsi (Baranya County) on June 2.

Budapest radio station Radiocafé (98.6 FM) ceased operations permanently on May 17 after national media authority NMHH withdrew its broadcasting permit over a Ft 24 million (€90,000) overdue debt.
