Hungary ranked highest in FIFA world rankings since late 1992
Saturday, 05 February 2011
Hungary advanced five notches from 42nd to 37th place in the latest FIFA soccer world rankings published on Wednesday.

This is the highest place for Hungary's national eleven to occupy since December 1992 when it was ranked 36th.

The team's latest rise can be attributed to recent victories against Moldova, San Marino and Finland in qualifiers for the European Championship, and Lithuania in a friendly game.

Hungary plays Holland (ranked 2nd), Sweden (29), Finland (78), Moldova (81) and bottom-placed San Marino (203) in its European Championship qualification group.

Azerbaijan, the team's next opponent in Dubai next Wednesday, is ranked 99th.
